The MAR - Art Museum of the City of Ravenna is located inside the monumental complex of the Loggetta Lombardesca, the 16th century monastery of the adjacent Abbey of Santa Maria in Porto.
The museum, established in 2002 by the Municipality of Ravenna, besides being the seat of many important temporary art exhibitions, hosts three permanent collections within its architectural spaces and its Art Gallery:
- an ancient collection with works, including paintings and sculptures, dating from the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries, including the statue of Guidarello Guidarelli by Tullio Lombardo (1525);
- a modern collection with works datable between the 19th and 21st century, among which a beautiful drawing by Gustav Klimt deserves special attention;
- a collection of contemporary mosaics with works that can be dated between the middle of the 20th century and today.
